Get Up Go Outside - Everyday Adventures 01
The first instalment of my newsletter see's me looking back on the small adventures I've had over the past few weeks.
Over the last few weeks, life has been pretty busy. Free time to go outside has been scarce, so I’ve had to cherish every moment I’ve had. Here are a few things I’ve done over the last few weeks:
Our Time Outdoors - Trail Running
Photography and filmmaking have become a big interest of mine, and inevitably I spend a lot of my time outdoors doing it. I’ve started a mini-documentary series exploring different ways of spending time outdoors, and my very first episode is out now. Check out Our Time Outdoors - Trail Running.
Helping a Friend
I’d planned a day away in Norfolk during the May bank holiday, but then decided to cancel when a friend asked me to go and help him felt the roof of his shed. So instead of walking along the coast, I spent my at the Allotment on a ladder. You can check out my blog post about what I got up to on my Website.
Wild Swimming on Summer Solstice
I’ve been open-water swimming at a nearby lake for a few years now but had never plucked up the courage to try river swimming. A local Facebook swimming group were all planning to go for a swim at sunrise on Summer Solstice. I couldn't think of a better first river swim, so took the plunge (literally) and joined them in a wet field at 4AM.
When I find myself with free time that isn’t spent outdoors, I usually end up reading or watching other people spend their time outside. Here are a few things that have taken my interest recently:
Russ Cook, aka The Worlds Hardest Geezer, is attempting to become the first person to run the length of Africa. There are regular updates on how he is getting on, on his YouTube Channel.
James Lloyd is walking the coast of Britain to raise money for Mind. He posts daily updates on how he is getting on, along with some beautiful photos and sketches, on how Instagram.
I’ve been quite lazy with reading just recently, so after a quick coffee in Waterstones I had a browse through the shelves and found The Gran Tour; Travels with my Elders by Ben Aitken. In his book, Ben takes on a different kind of adventure when he decides to embark on coach package holidays in the UK, a type of holidaying loved by pensioners. Across multiple trips Ben reconnects with the older generation, learning some important life lessons along the way.
